After the Swiss Gymnastics Federation announced Wendy Bruce-Martin as the new head coach of women's artistic gymnastics last week, another important position in women's artistic gymnastics has been filled with the American Christopher Lakeman. The American-born gymnast will join the Federation as head coach Artistic Gymnastics U15 Women in January 2022. The 42-year-old was most recently head coach at RLZ Ost in Wil. Together with the new head coach, Wendy Bruce-Martin, women's artistic gymnastics in Switzerland is to be made sustainably successful in view of the «2028/2032» project.
« Chris Lakeman lives the same training philosophy as our new head coach. In addition, he already knows artistic gymnastics in Switzerland very well, » says David Huser, head of elite sports at the Federation. Lakeman brings great experience and expertise in artistic gymnastics. After his active career as an artistic gymnast, he already worked as a coach in the USA, Australia and Germany. Most recently, Lakeman also served as team leader of the Swiss national women's gymnastics squad at the 2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Kitakyushu.
For Wendy Bruce-Martin, new head coach of women's artistic gymnastics, Chris Lakeman is the perfect fit for the position of national coach U15: « I am excited to be able to work with Chris. He brings a strong positive energy into everything he does. He has a clear vision of what is needed to continue and develop high level athletes. I feel he is an integral part of the team. »

Lakeman succeeds Nicolas Gitteau, who resigned as head of junior artistic gymnastics women at the end of 2020. The position was held ad interim by René Plüss, Head of Education Artistic Gymnastics Women. Christopher Lakeman's contract is open-ended.
